CalAmp Introduces New Software; Joins Intel Communications Alliance
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CalAmp Corp. (Nasdaq: CAMP - News) today announced a new range of technology solutions for the Intel® IXP425 network processor. As part of its efforts to promote the new offerings and other Intel based products, the company also announced it has joined the Intel® Communications Alliance (ICA) as an affiliate member.
The IXP425 is a single chip network processor for use in products that require network connectivity and high performance to run software applications. CalAmp is introducing software offerings that enable emerging wireless capabilities for mobile devices that utilize IXP425.
"The IXP425 offerings announced today and our membership in the ICA enhances our relationship with Intel to provide greater depth of technology and services for Intel's customers, as well as our own customers," said Tracy Trent, President of CalAmp's Solutions Division. "This participation will help us to further establish our capabilities and leadership in the most prevalent technologies shaping wireless development today."
CalAmp's software drivers support 802.11a/b/g multi-band wireless networking capabilities for the Intel IXP425 product line of networking processors. These drivers are licensed specifically for either Linux or Microsoft WinCE Operating Systems and were designed to help expand wireless device applications beyond PCs and laptops to wireless routers, access points, industrial controllers, set-top boxes and other devices.
"The Intel Communications Alliance provides companies such as CalAmp with a broad range of hardware, software and services to speed development and deployment of standards-based communications products," said Kevin Johnson, Director, Intel Communications Alliance. "CalAmp's membership in the ICA will help us work together to deliver next generation wireless solutions to our customers."
The alliance membership is an extension of a relationship initiated in 2001 that established CalAmp's Solutions Division, formerly known as Vytek, as an authorized design center for the Personal Connectivity Alliance Developers Network within Intel. CalAmp also offers reference designs and services for the Intel PXA255 processor and the newly introduced PXA270 processor.
