Network to Provide Mobile Data Communications for Fire, Police and EMS Personnel
OXNARD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 15, 2006--CalAmp Corp.
(Nasdaq:CAMP), a leading provider of wireless products and engineering
services, today announced that its Dataradio operating unit has signed
a contract with Michigan's Genesee County E-911 Consortium to replace
the Consortium's existing mobile data public safety network for first
responders. The contract is valued at approximately $1.3 million and
will provide mobile data to 28 police departments and 22 fire
departments in Genesee County. Work on the project is expected to
begin in the first quarter of calendar 2007, with system acceptance
scheduled for December 2007.
The Consortium is comprised of Genesee County and all of the
municipalities served by the 911 system. The new Dataradio G3 800 MHz
IP platform will operate at 24 Kbps on each of the Consortium's NPSPAC
(National Public Safety Planning Advisory Committee) channels, and can
be upgraded to higher speeds in the future. The 911 system, which
provides mobile access to critical information in emergencies and
traffic stops, will initially support approximately 300 first
responders and is provisioned for expansion in the future.
"The Genesee County E-911 Consortium is the latest in a growing
list of governmental organizations that have selected Dataradio to
provide mission critical mobile data communications for their fire,
police and EMS personnel," remarked Robert Rouleau, Dataradio Senior
Vice President and General Manager. "First responders provide
invaluable services to their communities and we are proud to offer the
tools they need to safely and effectively perform their day-to-day
duties. Dataradio has a well deserved reputation for providing public
safety agencies with cost-effective mobile data communications
solutions that have fast response times and highly reliable guaranteed
coverage. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial
relationship with the Genesee County E-911 Consortium."
Genesee County 911 Communications Center Director Lloyd Fayling
said, "Genesee County's 911 Communications Center is committed to
providing our citizens with the finest in emergency communications
service. Our current Dataradio system has served us well for the last
decade and we firmly believe Dataradio's new G3 product will give us
the reliability, coverage, security, and TCP/IP connectivity that we
now require, along with a network that can expand as our needs
continue to grow in the future."
