Companies Will Show Joint Solution at DistribuTECH 2009
OXNARD, Calif. & RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
CalAmp Corp. (NASDAQ:CAMP), a leading provider of wireless products,
services and solutions, announced today that it has teamed with KORE
Telematics to develop a powerful wireless solution for Advanced
Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Smart Grid applications. KORE
Telematics is a leading specialized wireless network provider focused
exclusively on the rapidly-expanding machine-to-machine (M2M)
communications market. The new solution utilizes CalAmp’s WiMetry™
platform, which has been certified to operate on the KORE
M2M network.
CalAmp's WiMetry, in combination with the KORE network, enables
utilities to send and receive digital information concerning electricity
use, costs, prices, time of use, nature of use or other relevant
information within the grid. With real-time access to this data,
utilities are able to more effectively engage their customer base to
promote energy conservation, manage peak load demand and carry out other
key Smart Grid initiatives.
The joint WiMetry and KORE solution addresses the needs of utilities
that require secure, cost-effective and reliable wireless data
communications for advanced metering, demand response and other Smart
Grid applications. KORE GSM and CDMA data services are built for the
highest reliability and extremely efficient data transfer to enable
on-demand analysis and management.
“Our WiMetry platform provides real-time, two-way wireless
communications to manage sensing, collecting and monitoring of data from
all portions of a utility’s electric transmission and distribution
grid,” said Michael Burdiek, CalAmp’s Chief Operating Officer. “We are
excited to team up with KORE because of their direct connection to the
extensive CDMA and GSM cellular networks of Tier 1 carriers, resulting
in reliable, flexible and cost-effective wireless connectivity that
enables some of the most successful AMR/AMI deployments in use today.”
“CalAmp has supplied wireless communications systems to the utility
market for more than a decade, and we are proud to certify WiMetry on
our network,” said Alex Brisbourne, President and COO, KORE Telematics.
“The KORE network is the perfect complement to CalAmp’s utility network
collection device, and we are confident our utility customers will be
able to implement reliable AMI and Smart Grid applications more rapidly
than ever in response to evolving utility industry initiatives.”
CalAmp and KORE are exhibiting the WiMetry platform on the KORE network
in booth #2441 at the DistribuTECH 2009 conference in San Diego, CA
through February 5, 2009.
