Mission Critical Network to Provide Enhanced Mobile Data Communications for Public Safety Personnel
OXNARD, CA, Apr 25, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
CalAmp Corp. (NASDAQ: CAMP), a leading provider of wireless
products, services and solutions, announced today it has been
selected by the Halton Regional Police Service, Ontario, Canada to
upgrade the Region's mobile data network used by public safety
personnel. The contract is valued at approximately US$1.7 million and
is scheduled to be completed in CalAmp's fiscal 2012.
CalAmp designed and installed the Halton Regional Police Service's
original mobile data communications network in 1999 and subsequently
upgraded the network in 2004. The upgrade project announced today
calls for the deployment of CalAmp's latest generation native-IP
Paragon4 base stations and Gemini3 agile dual-band mobile modems. The
mobile data network will be deployed across the Region and allow for
multi-network operation with seamless roaming to a private WiFi
network maintained by the Halton Regional Police Service. Operating
in the 700 MHz licensed band with speeds up to 128 Kbps, the data
communications network will use CalAmp's proprietary Parallel Decode
technology for dependable, high-speed mobile data delivery. In
addition to the network equipment, the project award includes system
engineering, implementation and project management services, and
technical support for five years following deployment. The network
has the capacity to be expanded in the future to include other first
responder agencies in the Halton Region.
"Our prior experience with CalAmp and their proven track record of
providing mission critical reliability strongly influenced our
decision to stay with CalAmp for this upgrade project," commented
Brian Green, Halton Police's Director of Information Services. "While
our network has served us well for more than a decade, we firmly
believe that this upgrade will give us the reliable mobile data
connectivity and higher data rates that we now require."
"We are gratified that the Halton Regional Police Service has decided
to continue evolving their wireless data network with CalAmp
technology," said Rick Nozel, Senior VP of Sales and Marketing for
CalAmp's Wireless Networks business. "Our current generation 700MHz
Paragon/Gemini platform offers the increased data speed and
multi-network capability that Halton needs today, with additional
capacity to support system expansion to other agencies in the future.
We look forward to continuing our long and mutually beneficial
relationship with Halton."
